Lock And Key Security Options For Your Businesss

Your company can invest in the most secure locks available, but if the company isn't practicing key security, they will do little against keeping unwanted people from opening those locked doors. So, how do you maintain optimum lock security in your business? Here, you will learn a few tips that can help.

Do Not Duplicate

First and foremost, make sure that each key provided to your employees is stamped "Do Not Duplicate" by the locksmith. This will prevent the employee from being able to go to their local hardware store and get copies of the key made.

Patented Key System

Patented key systems will prevent anyone from being able to make keys for the locks. The locksmith who creates the lock and installs it will be the only person legally allowed to create copies of the key. The locksmith should be provided with a short list of people who are permitted to gain access behind the locked door and receive duplicate keys.

Key Sign-In-and-Out System

If employees don't need access to certain parts of the building at all times, consider using a sign-in-and-out system. Each time a person needs access to what is behind the locked door, the key will need to be signed out. When the key is returned, it is signed in. This will give you a low-tech way of monitoring who has the keys to the secure areas of your building and who is responsible for returning them at the end of the day.

Opt for Electronic Locks

Electronic locks can be used by themselves or in conjunction with keys. The electronic lock will require the user to enter a code before the door will unlock. Using a combination of the two will make it easy to prevent access to a former employee that hasn't turned in a key after they have been dismissed. You can quickly remove their access code from the system and the door will not unlock – key or not.

Re-Key the Locks

If security has been an issue and you aren't sure who has keys to each lock in your building, it is in your company's best interest to have the locks in the building re-keyed. A locksmith will come in and replace the cores of the locks and provide you with new keys, allowing you to start from scratch.

About Me

Learning About Locksmith Tools and Services

Hi, my name is Yonni Pluthers. Several months after my daughter was born, the fire alarm in our new apartment started going off. Since it was a building alarm, we all had to immediately evacuate and wait for the fire department to clear the structure. I rushed out of the apartment with my daughter in my arms and closed the door behind me. Unfortunately, the knob lock was activated and I did not have my keys. Upon returning to my home, I found my door firmly locked. I called a locksmith and waited for her outside. I watched in awe as she wriggled the lock open using an incredible set of tools. From that point on, I developed an interest in locksmith services. I would like to share the tools and techniques used by locksmiths to open doors. I will also talk about locksmith services for vehicles on this site.
